Wairewa Games 2025

Wow, what an epic day! The Mana Tagata Wairewa Games Day was a huge success, filled with laughs, a bit of competition, and a whole lot of whanaungatanga.

From the get-go, the energy was high as whānau arrived at Awa-iti Domain, repping their team colours and ready for a day of fun. We kicked things off with karakia, setting the tone for a day that was all about connection, good vibes, and a little bit of friendly rivalry.

With teams stacked across all ages, from our tamariki to our kaumātua – the games began! We tackled everything from balloon relays and hula hoop chains to the classic egg & spoon race. The gumboot throw saw some surprising talents emerge, and the trivia round kept us on our toes, proving that speed and smarts make a winning combo! The final event, the ultimate show down Tug of War, brought out the ultimate test of teamwork and determination.

Throughout the day, there were plenty of standout moments, the best-dressed whānau bringing the team spirit, those who gave it their all (even if it meant a few tumbles along the way), and the loudest, proudest supporters cheering on from the sidelines.

After a well-earned kai break, we wrapped up with prize-giving, recognising not just the overall winning team but also those who stood out for their effort, sportsmanship, and pure enthusiasm.

This day wouldn’t have been possible without all the amazing people who showed up, got involved, and made it such a memorable event. Whether you were playing, cheering, or just soaking up the good vibes, ngā mihi nui ki a koutou!

Already looking forward to the next one… who’s in? 😏
